Sooke
Sooke's Forest Bylaw aims to preserve and protect trees concern to the maintenance of the Districts urban forest.
Before removing or altering a tree identified as protected, significant or designated as a replacement tree, property owners are often required to submit a Tree Removal or Alteration Permit Application.
Tree removal applications are usually sent to the municipality town/city hall. If we do enter into an agreement of services then we may ask for an emailed copy of the authorization provided by the municipality where the tree work will take place.
Some municipalities may have a resident Tree Planting Program that encourages residents to contribute to the municipality’s urban canopy layout within their private property.
No. The fallen or removed wood often belongs to the property and by extension the owner of the property. This is not the case with all municipalities. We insist all property owners inquire with their municipality before reaching out to us. On the other hand, in most cases, it is the owner that has full discretion of what happens with the wood.
Occasionally we do. We will make a Facebook Marketplace post when we do. You can always visit our FB page to see if we have a few yards for sale that week.
No. Doing so requires many resources from bucking, to loading, transportation, and restocking. We can, in some cases refer you to one of our milling partners. At which point you would make arrangements with them regarding the selling and moving of the wood.
NOT REALLY, all removals require an investment for their specific purposes. Although, only a very few tree work scenarios will include an opportunity for the owner of the property to make money from the tree service.
All estimates are Not created equal. Potential clients can expect to see a variety of a day rate, hourly rate, combination of both rates, dumping fee, machine rates, bucking rates, hauling rates, special equipment fee on their quote. Cleanup rates may be included or excluded at the clients request.
Cleanup refers to debris from any branches, limbs, brush, or foliage that occurs during the Tree service. This also accounts for existing piles of brush or debris that are around at time of tree work. If you are looking to save a few bucks when hiring an arborist then ask them for a quote that does not include cleanup.
A good arborist will communicate what they see in your tree, hedges, or lot, and give you clear information so that you can make an informed decision that best suits your situation.
Not all arborists are created equal – like any other trade, some arborists will push for the option that generates them the most profit, regardless if that is the right option for your tree needs.
